Project Overview:
The project involved the refurbishment and redesign of the existing porch area at the BPA Thames site. The original porch structure had developed significant issues, including roof leaks at the junction between the main building and porch area, as well as visible structural movement that rendered it unsafe. Following inspection, the existing 4-metre-long porch and its outdated beam support system were carefully dismantled and removed. A new, smaller porch was then designed and constructed to meet the client’s specific requirements, providing a safe, functional, and visually improved entrance area. The new structure eliminates previous safety concerns while maintaining the aesthetic and practical needs of the site.
Scope of Works:
- Conduct full inspection and assessment of the existing porch structure and roof junction.
- Carefully dismantle and remove the original 4-metre porch and old beam support system.
- Safely dispose of all waste materials in accordance with environmental regulations.
- Prepare the existing building façade and roofline for new porch installation.
- Design and construct a new, smaller porch structure to meet client requirements.
- Install new roof covering and flashing to ensure a watertight seal between the porch and main building.
- Fit all necessary structural supports, finishes, and trims to provide a durable and safe final build.
- Carry out quality and safety checks to confirm stability and compliance with building standards.
- Clean and tidy the work area upon completion, ensuring minimal disruption to site operations.
Project Highlights:
- Safe removal of the original, unstable porch structure and outdated beam system.
- Resolution of long-standing roof leak issues at the junction between the main building and porch area.
- Design and construction of a new, smaller porch to meet the client’s functional and aesthetic requirements.
- Improved safety, stability, and durability through modern materials and construction methods.
- Enhanced appearance of the building entrance, creating a more professional and welcoming façade.

Benefits to the Client:
The new porch provides the client with a safer, more durable, and visually appealing entrance area that fully meets their operational needs. By replacing the failing and unsafe original structure, the works eliminate potential safety hazards and ongoing maintenance issues. The redesigned, smaller porch enhances building functionality while improving weather protection and preventing future water ingress. Overall, the project delivers a long-term, low-maintenance solution that strengthens site safety, appearance, and usability.
