Project Overview:

TNS were engaged to install a series of branded stainless steel water bottle filling stations across multiple busy London stations, including Willesden Junction, Acton, Bushey, West Croydon, Penge West and Leytonstone High Road. The initiative formed part of Arriva Rail’s drive to improve passenger facilities and encourage sustainability by reducing single-use plastics.

Scope of Works:

  • Supply and installation of stainless steel branded water bottle filling stations
  • Cold water and foul water connections, including pressure testing and chlorination with full bacterial analysis
  • Installation of new dedicated electrical circuits, containment systems, and wiring
  • Integration with existing building services, with NICEIC Electrical Installation Certification issued upon completion
  • Full survey of cable and pipework routes, including proposals to overcome complex station layouts and heritage restrictions

Project Highlights:

  • Delivered in fully operational train stations within high-footfall public environments such as platforms and booking halls
  • Careful planning and safe systems of work ensured zero disruption to passengers or station operations
  • Bespoke routing of pipework and cable containment to suit the unique constraints of each station environment
  • Enhanced passenger experience by providing safe, hygienic, and sustainable refill points, reducing reliance on single-use bottles

Benefits to the Client and Public:

The installations have provided long-term, low-maintenance solutions to support passenger wellbeing and sustainability targets. Positioned strategically within key passenger flow areas, the stations now enable commuters and visitors to refill bottles conveniently and safely, directly contributing to reduced waste and improved passenger satisfaction.
