BPA Water Treatment Room Refurbishment

British Pipeline Agency Water Treatment Room Refurbishment

Project Overview:

The project involved the complete refurbishment of the existing water treatment room, which was an uninsulated prefabricated concrete structure. To improve thermal performance and maintain a more consistent internal temperature for the water treatment services, 50mm thermal insulation boards were installed to the external walls and finished with a durable three-coat render system. Additionally, a new insulated roof was fitted to replace the original corrugated cement-based roofing, significantly reducing heat loss and improving overall energy efficiency. The refurbishment not only enhances the building’s performance and longevity but also ensures that the water treatment systems operate under optimal and stable conditions throughout the year.

Scope of Works:

  • Carry out initial inspection and preparation of existing prefabricated concrete building.
  • Supply and install 50mm thermal insulation boards to all external walls.
  • Apply a durable three-coat render system over insulation to provide a weather-resistant finish.
  • Remove existing corrugated cement-based roof and safely dispose of all waste materials.
  • Supply and install new insulated roof system to improve thermal efficiency and reduce heat loss.
  • Seal all junctions, edges, and penetrations to ensure a fully insulated and watertight envelope.
  • Conduct quality checks to confirm correct installation and finish of all materials.
  • Clean and tidy work area upon completion, removing all debris and construction waste.
  • Ensure all works comply with relevant building regulations, health and safety requirements, and manufacturer specifications.

Project Highlights:

  • Successful upgrade of an uninsulated prefabricated concrete building into a thermally efficient facility.
  • Installation of 50mm thermal insulation boards and a high-quality three-coat render system to all external walls.
  • Replacement of the original corrugated cement-based roof with a new insulated roof system, significantly reducing heat loss.
  • Improved temperature control within the water treatment room, supporting optimal operation of equipment and services.
  • Works completed efficiently and in accordance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Enhanced building durability, weather resistance, and energy efficiency.
  • Delivered on schedule with minimal disruption to ongoing site operations.

Benefits to the Client:

The refurbishment provides the client with a more energy-efficient and resilient facility, ensuring that the water treatment systems operate within optimal temperature ranges year-round. The addition of wall and roof insulation reduces heat loss, lowers energy consumption, and helps protect sensitive equipment from temperature fluctuations. The upgraded finishes also improve the building’s durability and appearance, resulting in a low-maintenance, long-term solution that enhances overall operational efficiency and asset value.
